Becoming a Direct Support Professional: A Step-by-Step Guide to Certification

​A DSP (Direct Support Professional) certificate is a credential awarded to individuals who have completed training and certification requirements to provide support and assistance to people with disabilities. Direct Support Professionals play a crucial role in the lives of individuals with disabilities, helping them with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their health and well-being.

these are the steps to gain the DSP certificate:

  1. Identify the certifying organizations or agencies that offer DSP certification like(Morrison center, goodwill, Woodford family services). 

  2. Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  3. Pass a criminal background check, as working with vulnerable populations requires a clean record. 

  4. Enroll in the DSP class, complete training and pass the test on every module online. 

  5. Add some live classes or attend in person depends on your organization.

  6. Receive your certificate.
